HOMESTEAD
EXEMPTION
Property Tax Exemptions
for Homeowners
As a homeowner, you are entitled to a Homestead
Exemption, which will allow you to deduct a certain percentage
from your property taxes. An exemption removes part of the value
of your property from taxation and lowers your taxes. For example,
if your home is valued at $50,000 and you qualify for a $5,000
exemption, you pay taxes on your home as if it was worth only
$45,000.
The
above link will take you to a printable form that you can mail
into Cobb County to file for your Homestead Exemption. Or you
may call the Cobb County Tax Commissioner's office at (770) 528-8600
after January 1, 2006 to request a copy of the application. You
will need to attach a copy of your Warranty Deed.
All
applications must be returned to the Cobb County Tax Commissioner's
office by April
1st, 2009 to be eligible for the Homestead Exemption.
